Competition Rules

General Competition Rules

All athletes participating in Altitude Games are required to follow the competition rules, movement standards, judging procedures, and instructions issued by the organisers and competition officials.

  • Athletes must compete in the category for which they are registered and eligible.
  • Athletes must report to their assigned heats and competition areas on time.
  • Movement standards will be communicated before or during the competition as applicable.
  • All athletes must follow instructions given by judges, event staff, and competition officials.
  • Unsafe conduct, cheating, abusive behaviour, or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in penalties or disqualification.
  • The use of prohibited performance-enhancing substances is strictly forbidden.

Competition Categories

Athletes must register and compete in the correct Altitude Games category.

  • Elite Men
  • Elite Women
  • Intermediate Men
  • Intermediate Women
  • Masters Women (+40yrs)
  • Masters Men (+40yrs)
  • Team of Four (2 Men + 2 Women)

The organisers reserve the right to move or remove an athlete from a category where the athlete does not meet the applicable eligibility requirements.

Team Requirements

A Team of Four must consist of four active athletes: two men and two women.

  • Each team must register all four required athletes.
  • Each team must nominate one team captain.
  • Team athletes must comply with all applicable competition and movement standards.

Athlete Check-in

All athletes must complete the official Altitude Games check-in process before competing.

During check-in, athletes may be required to:

  • Present a valid national ID or passport.
  • Confirm their competition category.
  • Complete or confirm the required liability waiver.
  • Receive their athlete identification or wristband.
  • Attend the mandatory athlete briefing.

Failure to complete check-in within the official check-in period may result in removal from the competition.

Competition Format

  • Workouts, movement standards, and scoring procedures will be announced before the applicable competition events.
  • Athletes must report to their assigned heats on time.
  • The Event Director may adjust heats, schedules, or competition operations where necessary for safety or operational reasons.
  • Athletes must remain within designated athlete and competition areas when instructed.

Judging

Athletes are responsible for understanding the applicable movement standards before beginning a workout.

  • A repetition only counts when it satisfies the prescribed movement standard.
  • A judge may issue a no-rep where a required movement standard is not achieved.
  • An athlete must continue following the judge's instructions during an active workout.
  • Official protests must be submitted through the approved protest procedure within the announced protest period.

No Rep

A repetition declared a no-rep does not count toward the athlete's or team's required total. The required repetition must be completed correctly before it can be credited.

Endurance Rules

  • Teams may rotate athletes where rotation is permitted by the workout.
  • The team must complete the total prescribed distance.
  • Official distance markers or machine counters will be used.
  • The rower handle must be properly returned before the next athlete begins.
  • Athletes must not adjust the rower damper unless specifically instructed.
  • Non-working athletes must remain behind the designated working station.

Wall Ball Standards

  • One athlete works at a time where the workout requires individual rotation.
  • The hip crease must pass below the top of the knee.
  • The athlete must reach full hip and knee extension before throwing the ball.
  • The ball must make contact with the designated target.
  • At least half of the ball must be above the target line when it makes contact.
  • Waiting athletes must remain behind the designated working line.

A no-rep may be issued where:

  • The hip crease does not pass below the top of the knee.
  • Full hip and knee extension is not achieved.
  • The ball misses the target.
  • The ball does not reach the required target height.

Box Jump Over Standards

  • The athlete must jump onto the box with both feet.
  • Both feet must land on top of the box.
  • The athlete may step down or jump down.
  • Full extension on top of the box is not required.
  • Hands may not be used for assistance during the jump or step-down.

A no-rep may be issued where:

  • The athlete uses their hands for assistance.
  • Both feet do not land on top of the box.
  • The athlete fails to cross completely to the opposite side.

Sandbag Carry Standards

  • The sandbag must be carried under control.
  • The sandbag must be carried against the chest or in another approved position.
  • Running or walking is permitted.
  • Both feet must completely cross each designated line.
  • The sandbag may only be dropped after the athlete has crossed the applicable finish line.

If an athlete fails to completely cross a designated line, the athlete must return to the previous completed line before continuing.

Penalties

  • No Rep: The repetition does not count and must be completed correctly before being credited.
  • Run Penalty: For every 100 metres not completed, one minute will be added to the final time.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct may result in penalties or disqualification.
  • Serious misconduct may result in immediate removal from the competition.

Disqualification

An athlete may be disqualified for:

  • Cheating.
  • Use of prohibited substances.
  • Unsafe behaviour.
  • Providing false registration information.
  • Refusing to follow competition officials or judges.
  • Abusive language, fighting, harassment, or serious misconduct.

A disqualified athlete may forfeit competition rankings, medals, prizes, and prize money.

Code of Conduct

All athletes are expected to:

  • Respect judges, volunteers, staff, spectators, and fellow competitors.
  • Display good sportsmanship at all times.
  • Follow competition rules and official instructions.
  • Compete fairly and safely.

Endurance (Buy-In)
  • 1000m Run
  • 5000m Bike
  • 4000m Row
  • 3000m Ski
  • Buy Out: 1000m Run
General Rules
  • Teams may rotate athletes at any time.
  • The team only needs to complete the total prescribed distance.

  • Return the rower handle before the next athlete starts.
  • Do not adjust the rower damper.
  • Non-working athletes must remain behind the designated working station.
Wall Balls (100 Reps)
  • One athlete works at a time.
  • Hip crease must pass below the top of the knee.
  • Reach full hip and knee extension before throwing.
  • The ball must hit the target.
  • At least half of the ball must be above the target line when it makes contact.
  • Waiting athletes must remain behind the working line.

No Rep if:

  • Hip doesn’t go below the knee.
  • No full extension.
  • Ball misses the target.
  • Ball doesn’t reach the required height.
Box Jump Overs
  • Jump onto the box with both feet.
  • Both feet must land on top of the box.
  • Step down or jump down is allowed.
  • Full extension on top of the box is not required.
  • Hands may not assist on the jump or while stepping down.

No Rep if:

  • Hands are used for assistance.
  • Both feet don’t land on top of the box.
  • Athlete fails to cross completely to the opposite side.
Sandbag Carry (40 ft)
  • Carry the sandbag under control.
  • Carry it against the chest or approved position.
  • Running or walking is allowed.
  • Both feet must completely cross every designated line.
  • The sandbag may only be dropped after crossing the finish line.

Penalty

  • If you fail to completely cross a line, you must return to the previous completed line before continuing.
Penalties
  • No Rep: The repetition does not count. You must repeat the rep until it meets the movement standard.
  • Run Penalty: For every 100m not completed, 1 minute will be added to your final time.
  • Judges’ decisions are final.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct may result in penalties or disqualification.

Altitude Games Terms & Conditions

Dear Athlete,

By registering for Altitude Games, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to the following Terms & Conditions.

1. Introduction

Registration confirms your acceptance of all competition rules and terms.

The organisers may update these rules where necessary to ensure safety and fair competition.

2. Eligibility

  • Athletes must be at least 18 years old unless special approval has been granted.
  • Athletes must register in the correct competition category.

The Altitude Games categories are:

  • Elite Men
  • Elite Women
  • Intermediate Men
  • Intermediate Women
  • Masters Women (+40yrs)
  • Masters Men (+40yrs)
  • Team of Four (2 Men + 2 Women)

The organisers reserve the right to move or remove athletes who do not meet the applicable category requirements.

3. Registration

Registration is only confirmed after:

  • Completing the registration form.
  • Full payment of the required registration fee.
  • Acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.
  • Entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Registration closes once capacity is reached.

4. Payment & Refund Policy

  • Registration fees must be paid in full.
  • Registration fees are non-refundable.
  • Refunds will not be issued due to injury, illness, travel delays, visa issues, personal reasons, or failure to attend.
  • Entry transfers may be allowed before the published deadline, subject to organiser approval.

5. Athlete Check-in

All athletes must complete official check-in before competing.

During check-in, athletes must:

  • Present a valid ID or passport.
  • Sign the liability waiver.
  • Verify their competition category.
  • Receive their athlete wristband.
  • Attend the mandatory athlete briefing.

Failure to check in within the official time may result in removal from the competition without a refund.

6. Competition Format

  • Workouts, movement standards, and scoring will be announced before competition.
  • Athletes must report to their assigned heats on time.
  • Judges' decisions are final unless an official protest is submitted within the allowed protest window.
  • The Event Director may adjust schedules or heats for safety and operational reasons.

7. Code of Conduct

Athletes must:

  • Respect judges, volunteers, staff, spectators, and fellow competitors.
  • Display good sportsmanship at all times.
  • Follow all competition rules and instructions.

Abusive language, fighting, harassment, cheating, or unsportsmanlike conduct may result in immediate disqualification.

8. Disqualification

Athletes may be disqualified for:

  • Cheating.
  • Using banned substances.
  • Unsafe behaviour.
  • Providing false registration information.
  • Ignoring judges or officials.
  • Serious misconduct.

Disqualified athletes will forfeit rankings, medals, and prize money.

9. Medical Fitness & Assumption of Risk

  • Functional fitness involves strenuous physical activity and carries inherent risks.
  • By registering, athletes confirm that they are medically fit to compete.
  • Participation is entirely at the athlete's own risk.
  • The organisers may withdraw an athlete if participation is considered unsafe.

10. Anti-Doping & Fair Play

  • Altitude Games supports clean sport.
  • The use of prohibited substances is strictly forbidden.
  • Violations will result in immediate disqualification and forfeiture of prizes.

11. Prize Money

  • Prize money will be awarded according to the official final results.
  • Athletes must complete all workouts and comply with competition rules to remain eligible.
  • Prize money may be withheld if rule violations are discovered after the event.

12. Media Release

By participating, athletes grant Altitude Games permission to use photographs, videos, and competition results for promotional and marketing purposes without additional compensation.

13. Personal Belongings

Athletes are responsible for their own personal belongings. The organisers are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.

14. Event Changes

Altitude Games reserves the right to modify schedules, workouts, or event formats due to weather, safety concerns, emergencies, or unforeseen circumstances.

15. Judging & Protests

Judges' decisions are final.

Official protests must be submitted within the announced protest period.

16. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya.

17. Acceptance

By registering for Altitude Games, every athlete confirms that they have read, understood, and agreed to abide by these Terms & Conditions.

Liability Waiver & Release

Express Assumption of Risk

I, the undersigned, am aware that there are significant risks involved in all aspects of physical training. These risks include, but are not limited to: falls which can result in serious injury or death; injury or death due to negligence on the part of myself, my training partner, or other people around me; injury or death due to improper use or failure of equipment; strains and sprains.

I am aware that any of these above-mentioned risks may result in serious injury or death to myself and or my partner(s). I willingly assume full responsibility for the risks that I am exposing myself to and accept full responsibility for any injury or death that may result from participation in any activity or class while at, or under direction of CrossFit254.

Release

In consideration of the above mentioned risks and hazards and in consideration of the fact that I am willingly and voluntarily participating in the activities offered by CrossFit254, I, the undersigned hereby release CrossFit254, their principals, agents, employees, and volunteers from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions or rights of action, which are related to, arise out of, or are in any way connected with my participation in this activity, including those allegedly attributed to the negligent acts or omissions of the above mentioned parties.

This agreement shall be binding upon me, my successors, representatives, heirs, executors, assigns, or transferees. If any portion of this agreement is held invalid, I agree that the remainder of the agreement shall remain in full legal force and effect.

If I am signing on behalf of a minor child, I also give full permission for any person connected with CrossFit254 to administer first aid deemed necessary, and in case of serious illness or injury, I give permission to call for medical and or surgical care for the child and to transport the child to a medical facility deemed necessary for the well-being of the child.

Indemnification

The participant recognizes that there is risk involved in the types of activities offered by CrossFit254. Therefore, the participant accepts financial responsibility for any injury that the participant may cause either to him/herself or to any other participant due to his/her negligence.

Should the above-mentioned parties, or anyone acting on their behalf, be required to incur attorney’s fees and costs to enforce this agreement, I agree to reimburse them for such fees and costs.

I further agree to indemnify and hold harmless CrossFit254, their principals, agents, employees, and volunteers from liability for the injury or death of any person(s) and damage to property that may result from my negligent or intentional act or omission while participating in activities offered by CrossFit254, at the main building or abroad. This includes but is not limited to parks, recreational areas, playgrounds, areas adjacent to main building, and/or any area selected for training by CrossFit254.

Photography / Video Release

Participants involved in any activities offered by CrossFit254 may be photographed or videotaped during training. The undersigned hereby consents to the use of these photographs and/or videos without compensation, on the CrossFit254 website or in any editorial, promotional or advertising material produced and/or published by CrossFit254.

Acknowledgement

I have read and understood the foregoing assumption of risk, and release of liability and I understand that by signing it obligates me to indemnify the parties named for any liability for injury or death of any person and damage to property caused by my negligent or intentional act or omission. I understand that by signing this form I am waiving valuable legal rights.
